Hosted by The Voice of Renewables and held in Essen, Hydrogen Connections DACH will take place on 2026 and gather representatives of H2 and P2X developers, gas TSOs, utilities and offtakers.
Hydrogen Connections & Strategic Innovation:
DACH region is rapidly advancing hydrogen as a cornerstone of its decarbonisation strategies.
From industrial-scale production in Germany to R&D breakthroughs in Austria and automation in Switzerland, the DACH region is building the infrastructure and expertise to lead hydrogen’s clean energy future.
HYDROGEN CONNECTIONS:
HIGH LEVEL NETWORKING
Germany
Major Pipeline Expansion and Subsidy Support
Germany is actively building its hydrogen infrastructure. The “Flow” pipeline – part of a planned 9,000 km core network – has seen its initial 400 km phase begun, connecting the north to key industrial regions.
Additionally, Nowega commissioned a 55 km segment in Lower Saxony, utilising upcycled infrastructure.
At the same time, a €5 billion EU-approved subsidy scheme is in place to support hydrogen-driven decarbonisation across industries via long-term Carbon Contracts for Difference.
Europe’s Largest Green Hydrogen Plant is Underway
BASF and Siemens Energy have teamed up to construct a 54 MW PEM electrolyser facility in Germany – the largest of its kind in Europe – expected to produce over 8,000 tons of green hydrogen annually for use in ammonia, methanol, vitamins, and more. The project is backed by €124.3 million in government funding.

An exclusive event uniting top hydrogen and P2X experts to advance projects & partnerships.

Austria
Research & Innovation at TU Graz
Austria has inaugurated a state-of-the-art hydrogen electrolysis test facility at TU Graz’s Campus Inffeldgasse. Featuring electrolyser capacities from 1.6 to 2.5 MW and supported by €10 million in federal funding (totaling €17 million across hydrogen research), the centre enables advanced testing and innovation in hydrogen applications.
Largest Electrolysis Plant at OMV Refinery
OMV, together with Kommunalkredit Austria, is investing approximately €25 million to build Austria’s biggest green hydrogen electrolysis plant at the Schwechat Refinery, expected to produce up to 1,500 tons annually and reduce CO₂ emissions by around 15,000 tons.
Energy Storage & CHP Innovation
Innio Group has launched the first hydrogen-fuelled combined heat and power (CHP) plant in Europe at a RAG site in Gampern. Using stored hydrogen (up to 4.2 GWh springing from summer solar surplus), the 1 MW Jenbacher system delivers heat and electricity efficiently, demonstrating advanced storage solutions

Collaborative Growth: PPAs, M&As, corporate partnerships, and cross-border strategies are accelerating projects across H2 value chains.

Switzerland
National Hydrogen Strategy and Solar Production Expansion
Switzerland’s Federal Council adopted a national hydrogen and PtX strategy in 2024. The plan lays out comprehensive measures for production, storage, infrastructure, and international cooperation, and as a result – positioning the country as a hydrogen innovation hub.
Axpo and partners launched construction on a 2 MW green hydrogen plant in Bürglen, slated to begin operations in 2026. Powered by hydropower, the facility will produce up to 260 tons of green hydrogen annually and fuel the first hydrogen passenger vessel on Lake Lucerne and supporting regional re-fueling infrastructure.
Automation in Hydrogen Production
Axpo is also piloting a remotely operated, fully automated hydrogen plant in Domat/Ems. This project marks a key step in integrating digitalisation and automation into hydrogen operations, aiming to boost safety, efficiency, and scalability.

Industrial Transformation: with support for green hydrogen current advances signal a robust commitment to decarbonisation and sustainable energy.
