Unlocking Value from Hybrid Energy Systems: Turning Wind, Solar and BESS into Bankable Projects.
Panel Description:
- As the global energy landscape shifts towards renewable energy sources, the importance of BESS has rapidly grown. These systems are pivotal in stabilising the grid, optimising energy use, and supporting the integration of variable renewable energy sources like wind and solar. Yet, integrating BESS into new and existing RES projects is not without its challenges.
- This part of the Forum explores the multifaceted challenges encountered during WIND-SOLAR-BESS hybridisation, focusing on technical, operational, economic, regulatory, and economic aspects and provides the answers to questions crucial for effective operation of hybrid projects.
Panel Content and Speakers:
- Presentation: Mr Tomás Freitas Rocha, Senior Energy Analyst, MEGAJOULE – Resource Assessment and Energy Yield Challenges.
- Presentation: Ms Cristiana Pacheco, Chief Executive Officer, SINAMBI Consultores – Environmental Assessment Challenges.
- Presentation: Mr Gonçalo Guerra, Founder & Managing Partner, BL Renewables Support – Construction Challenges.
- Presentation: Mr Tiago Santos, Founder & Chief Executive Officer, ENLITIA – Operation and Management Challenges.
- Panel Discussion: Overcoming The Challenges of Hybridisation: Integrating Strategies for Greater Efficiency in Wind + Solar + BESS Projects.
Audience Takeaways:
- Understand the Commercial Rationale: Learn why hybridising wind, solar, and battery storage is becoming a key strategy for improving project economics, grid flexibility, and capacity factors.
- Navigate the Development Process: Gain insights into siting, permitting, and interconnection challenges unique to hybrid projects — and how to overcome them.
- Technical Integration & Design Best Practices: Learn how to optimise hybrid configurations for performance, reliability, and lifecycle cost-efficiency — from co-location to control systems.
- Lessons from Real Projects: Walk away with case studies and lessons learned from successful (and struggling) hybrid projects across Europe.
